When Charlie’s old high school baseball team needed to raise money, you didn’t have to ask him twice. He put down $10,000 just to help get the Celebrity Poker Tournament and Auction together, an event being organized by his best friend Tony Todd, who is the assistance coach for the team, and many in the community. The fundraiser at the Moose Lodge was to benefit the Santa Monica High School baseball program, one that Charlie himself played for when he was attended the school. Sheen also sent out tweets to his millions of followers on Twitter to get people to attend.

And the Moose Lodge was filled up completely for the Saturday night event, making for a very successful night, and Charlie showed up as he’d promised he would, much to the delight of his fans, and the paparazzi. The latter, of course, had a ton of questions to ask him, but he demurred to everything that didn’t relate to the night, leaving them without answers to questions like Ashton Kutcher, the firing, his new show, his feud with Lorre, etc. Sheen played poker along with other guests like baseball player Derrek Lee, Coco Crisp and Kenny Lofton, Entertainment Tonight Chris Jacobs. It’s not clear whether any of them won or lost their hands, but a good time was had by celebrity and guest alike.

In the end, they raised $30,000 for the kids from the poker and the auction, although 70% of the auction items were not yet sold. To me, trying to sell things while people are losing money at the tables is probably not the best combination, but all is good. The items not sold will continue to be up for auction and people will have more chances to make bids until they are sold. These proceeds, even though they weren’t closed that night, will also go towards the baseball program.

The money will go specifically towards keeping their ball field maintained and for new uniforms, which will no doubt help the morale of the team, and hopefully lead to continued success.
