Well, there are few that are as outspoken as Charlie Sheen and when he gushes about his new show, he is like a parent of a newborn eager to show it off to everyone that he can find. And while he was being tight lipped about the casting choices for Anger Management, we do know of at least one.
As we mentioned the other day, Sheen had some choice words about his old employment, about Chuck Lorre, and how he felt as though he was a puppet on the set because he had no power over any of the decisions made there. That Lorre and Lee Aronson pretty much ran the show and he was just an employee. I hate to say it, but that formula has put both of Lorre’s shows on the top of the charts for a long time. Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco even said in an interview that the reason her show as so popular was because of Lorre. And so he can say what he wants, but the reason that his ex-producer gets what he wants is because what he wants is hitting the mark. Hopefully Sheen can be just as effective now that he is in charge and has a say and a stake in everything the show is and does. That we will see. But if you go by Sheen, his new endeavor will be a “f**king rocket ship to the Moon?” Only the moon? I would have thought he’d at least gone for Mars.
Anyway, while there isn’t a lot of casting news about the show, Sheen’s ex-wife in the series will be played by Saw star Shawnee Smith, who got her comedy chops as Ted Danson’s rather snarky secretary in the doctor comedy Becker. And so even though most of us know her lately as helping (or becoming) the killer in the hack/slash series, she definitely has a talent for laughter and knows all about the rigors of a TV shooting schedule.
Since production is scheduled to start in March, they’d better get a move on to fill the rest of the roles, which includes Sheen’s character’s therapist and his teenage daughter, among others. Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) is said to be reading for the part of the former, along with Elaine Hendrix, but the producers haven’t decided yet. Course if it were up to Charlie only, Blair probably would be cast in a second, as he seems to be a big fan. But they know it’s important to find just the right fit.
And that’s all the details we have right now.
