Well, according to Sheen, the crazy train has finally reached the station, but Charlie was no longer on board, which should be good news for the producers and crew of his new show Anger Management. No longer is he a warlock, the product of Adonis DNA with tiger blood running through his veins while he yelled “Duh, Winning” while seemingly losing everything he had. But since his ouster from Two and Half Men, in the end, he is back on his game, ready to dive into the rigorous schedule of TV once again.

Casting has just started on his show Anger Management, for which he plays the part made famous by Jack Nicholson in the film, but he definitely has a list of actresses and actors that he would like to see in the part, and unlike his previous employment, he has a say in who he will work with. That in itself has made him so focused. It is his show. His career will rise or fall on its success and being captain of your own boat is a healthy drug in itself. He said he’s never been listened to even though he’s been in the business for 30 years and is glad now to get the chance to actually put his input into the show.

The series, which currently has a pre-order of 10 episodes, will be expanded to 90 if it does well. This means the same type of grueling production schedule as a regular network series, rather than the more lenient one often found with cable shows (since they have less episodes generally per year). It will also mean a lot of decisions and extra work beyond just the filming which will be a true test of his ability to remain sober under the pressure. We certainly wish him the best.

Sheen said he decided to do Anger Management because he wanted to work on a series that was more mature and touched on issues in the real world. Cable certainly allows for that, but that also indicates that the show will be a bit more dramatic than perhaps the fun romp of Two and Half Men. This is okay, but I just hope it doesn’t make the same mistake that many comedies do, which is to overshadow the funny with too much drama in an attempt to prove the show has chops for an Emmy or something. He did say that his acting ability will be stretched in this one further than it has before, which again is cool, if not too overdrawn.

Producers say that there is no shortage of talent wanting to either be part of the show or a guest star. With Sheen playing a therapist, an ironic twist that puts him on the other side of the couch from real life, there is certainly plenty of opportunity for people to be “patients” in his office, which should make for some fun times. I was watching Two and Half Men the other day when they had Glee’s Jane Lyuch as the doctor and Sheen going to see her. If that kind of dynamic is prevalent in this show, it should work pretty well.

No date has been set for the new show, but expect it in the 2012/2013 season most likely…
