It’s almost time for the annual syndication convention in Miami and there is already buzz for Anger Management, Charlie’s new series, even though it hasn’t aired a single episode, but that may not stop stations from buying the rights now at the ground floor.

You see, Lionsgate has a deal with Sheen called 10/90. This means that if they like the way the first 10 episodes are going, they will order 90 more to air on FX. This is a method they’ve already used with success with Tyler Perry and Ice Cube and each of those wound up in syndication. And so they are hoping to do the same with Sheen’s new show. But this one might be a harder sell than those two because one thing that is missing in the fray is Chuck Lorre. As much as some would hate to admit it, there is a reason that Lorre is at the top of the heap. His two shows are the most popular sitcoms on TV with Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, which is still bringing in high ratings. So the question then becomes is it Sheen or Lorre that made his previous show work so well? Certainly Sheen has a lot to do with that, but his star power only goes so far and with his history, and his failed comedy tour, the distributor co-presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein certainly have their work cut out for them.

Especially since the show hasn’t even been cast yet. The head of the show though, commonly known as the showrunner, has assembled his writing team and has begun putting together scenarios for the episodes, but will that be enough to convince the people? My dad always said that it never hurts to ask and get the ball rolling, so Sheen will be joining the pair from Debney-Mercury in Miami at the NATPE convention to schmooze the buyers at an invitation only gathering, which should help because Sheen can be quite funny as a regular guy, besides reading lines others write for him. At worse case scenario, it will at least lay the ground work for deals later on.

We wish all of them the best of luck of course. It will be interesting to see what happens.
