Charlie would say trying to shut him up about the $100 million dollar case would probably be like catching a tsunami in a sippy cup, but now no one can officially try thanks to silence the man with tiger blood thanks to the denial of a gag order in the case.
An arbitrator, who will be hearing the two sides, has said that both Warner Brothers and Charlie Sheen’s camps can both give as much information to the media as they want without violating the rules of the arbitration. This was something that was really important to squelch for the movie studio and producer Chuck Lorre, so as to not air the dirty laundry in a public forum media circus, giving the warlock quite a bit of power to shape opinion of him and his former employers. But the gag order was denied. So we can pretty much look forward to quite a bit of juicy, although perhaps stale tidbits about both sides of this mess, filling tons of airtime. The court was quick to clarify though that the press would still not be allowed in the proceedings and no personal records are allowed to be used as fodder such as medical or financial documents.
Of course for Charlie, he’s really got nothing to lose in this deal. Those that are now sticking by him won’t hear anything that they don’t already know. Unless the defense has secret video that shows him sleeping with Satan or that he chopped up poor defenseless kittens in a blender, it’s doubtful that anything said is going to change the tide. People’s minds have pretty much been mae up. You either hate him or you love him or you just like Hollywood gossip at it’s most raw.
For the studio, however, the open airing could be quite damaging for their reputation and Sheen is definitely one to turn the knife. At worst, it will give everyone a first hand look at just how ruthless the TV business is and that’s never good PR for these studios and production companies.
The good news, or bad news depending on how you look at it, is that the drama will be continuing in this odd soap opera for a long time to come.
