If you are going to be roasted in a comedic way by your peers, who better to emcee the event than Seth McFarlane, who can be hilarious at improvising and is creator of one of the funniest shows around, Family Guy. So it was quite a coop to get the busy actor, producer, writer and comedienne to be there.
Getting a popular figure like McFarlane should go a long way in Comedy Central/Sheen’s hope of pulling viewers away from the Two and Half Men premiere. The roast was purposely scheduled opposite Charlie’s old sitcom in order to stick it to the producers one last time. But it also gives his fans somewhere to go if they don’t want to watch the show without him.
Who will be roasting Charlie? That has thus far been pretty secret if they even know. With still a month or so, it’s possible they are still lining up talent. Denise Richards, Charlie’s ex-wife, had actually said that she would be interested in being part of the roast, but her participation has not been confirmed. Producers would love that, as it would surely give the audience reason to watch beyond just the innocent mocking.
Sheen says that he won’t be upset by what anyone says, that it’s all in good fun, but that might be a little more to heart when it’s family.
Both Two and Half Men and Comedy Central Roast air on September 19, 2011. It will be ironic that they are toasting Sheen on one channel and saying goodbye to his character on the other. Should be a big night for Tivo.
