At first Sheen had made it clear that he was very upset over being shunned off Two and Half Men for good. The reality, of course, set in when they announced the series would go back into production with Ashton Kutcher as a new character to replace Sheen. But today he must have had a change of heart, for he sent Kutcher a congrats via Twitter that said that they found the right guy. Kutcher then wrote back that he was a fan and appreciated the encouragement.
Not to play devil’s advocate, but friends of the embattled actor are coming forward to say how Sheen has been really shattered by the news that the chance of going back to the show is really gone and they are afraid he may slip off the wagon. That and the fact that a lot of Two and a Half Men fans are not happy with the choice, makes us wonder whether his tweet was meant to be sarcastic, rather than sincere.
It doesn’t really matter I guess. What’s done is done and we’ll just have to see how it pans out. There is precedent. No one thought that Spin City would survive without Michael J. Fox, who was oddly enough replaced by Sheen. Whether that will happen in reverse or not, who knows.
The new season of Two and Half Men with Kutcher will air this autumn, with taping beginning this summer.
