We’ve reported here on the ups and downs of the Violent Torpedo of Truth tour, where boos and cheers were heard in the same evening throughout America and Canada. It basically depended on the expectations that one had going in I guess. Charlie being late at times with nothing to do but wait for the warlock to arrive didn’t help his cause in some cities. But he did muddle through and as he, himself, said, “The only thing he promised was that he would show up.” And he did.
The tour, arranged by Live Nation, Charlie says was not what he intended in relation to hype. The name Violent Torpedo of Truth gave people expectations that he was not prepared to deliver on, and the marketing is what confused people. He never had any intent than to show up and talk about whatever popped into his special brain. But the poster and the moniker promised so much more, a full multimedia show with just about everything you could imagine. It’s no wonder that people were upset when Charlie didn’t strap himself to a torpedo as the final act. Still, while there may be a point to what he’s saying in relation to the promoter not giving him the proper feedback he needed, it’s usually not the promoter’s job to come up with the show content, just the marketing and arranging. So while we can see a bit of an excuse, he really can’t blame his newbie status for all of it.
He has learned his lesson though in several areas and admits he’ll be much smarter this time. He’d dropped his association with Live Nation and renamed the show An Evening with Charlie Sheen. The new moniker allows the show to be billed as what it is, a sit down with the actor, instead of some crazed who knows what that the title inferred. Perhaps if that had been the name originally, he may have suffered less criticism.
For two weeks starting in June, he’ll be taking the show to Australia and Europe where the ex-Two and Half Men star has just as many adoring fans. For now he’s looking forward to the time off. No dates have been specified yet, but he says there will be 6-8 cities in the international tour.
