We’ve reported here that the Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour tickets have been selling like hotcakes and are sold out in most, if not all of the venues that have opened up. This information has come from the tour organizers, but there are still plenty of seats available according to the various locations, which were polled by popeater.com. The seats available are generally the highest price ones, presumably the ones near the front of the stage. The venue in Atlantic City at Trump Taj Mahal, for instance, has tickets still going for around $130. Even earlier locations that were heralded as being sold out in 18 minutes (Chicago and Detroit) still have seats available at the higher ticket prices.
Since the night proves to be a 70 minute intimate evening with the troubled star, having lots of seats empty in the front can be a very distracting thing for him and his ego. There is even talk that if those seats aren’t filled, that he may actually cancel the entire tour. Why? Because it doesn’t show he’s winning. We fail to see how it says “I’m winning” if he cancels the tour. Doing so would only serve to alienate those most loyal to the man, ones that would pay $60-130 to hear him talk.
We may be wrong, but it almost sounds like a case of cold feet. The early venues were more intimate and manageable for his style, but now that he’s playing venues like Radio City Music Hall, the idea of sitting in front of 6000 people may be a bit more overwhelming. As far as I’m aware, he’s never done Broadway or any venue like that before, so it’s got to be a bit intimidating. We have no way to know for sure and we are just guessing based on what we’ve seen, so… We want his tour to succeed, so we hope this isn’t the case.
However, if it is, our advice to Charlie is to stick it out. It’s been reported in various articles on other sites that you need the money and $7 million is definitely nothing to sneeze at. Not only would you forfeit that money, but the respect and love of your biggest fans. Quitting should not be an option.
Our advice to the ticket holders. Save your receipts.
