It seems that back in 2002, Charlie Sheen, along with a pretty hefty cast, were working on the voices for characters for the animated movie Foodfight! But the film never saw the light of day, but recently a trailer for the film has turned up which shows Sheen in the title role as Dex Dogtective, private eye, along side sidekick Sunshine Goodness, played by teen star at the time Hilary Duff.
Foodfight! is not about kids in a cafeteria, but an interesting look at what would happen when brand X products start invading store shelves, threatening the name brands for the people’s money. Characters like Mr. Clean, Chester Cheetah and others were going to appear on the side of “good”, while their enemy was portrayed as Lady X (Eva Longoria), General X (Jerry Stiller) and Mr. Clipboard (Christopher Lloyd). Sheen’s character heads the fearsome foes against these intruders that have invaded their town, of course with as much slapstick and puns as possible.
The amount of product placement in a film targetted towards children caused the film some controversy when it was announced. Parental groups complained that it pushed products right into the faces of the young ones. I wonder if those same groups got upset with Pixar, who threw just about every toy they could into Toy Story. But then Threshold Entertainment isn’t Pixar.
At first glance, a lot having to do with the fact that voices don’t seem to match the mouth movements, this looks like an attempt at a phony
trailer, which would be pretty impressive if it was that, but it’s not. It has an official IMDB page and a Wikipedia one as well. In fact, the rights to the film were being auctioned off back in September to settle the default on the loan that Threshold had borrowed to make it.
It’s kind of a shame this movie may never see the light of day. Course it’s not even clear at this point how much of the film is actually in the can. Perhaps it will wind up on DVD or on Saturday morning. For nothing else, to re-establish that Charlie Sheen can be kid friendly too and have something for his own kids to watch that he is in (if in character only).
