It’s no secret that Charlie loves baseball. He’s often seen at games and he starred in Major League, a movie franchise he wants to revive. He even gave the proceeds at one of his concert stops to a fan that had been beaten for rooting for the wrong team. But now Charlie has gone back to his younger days, donating $10,000 to a Santa Monica High School fundraiser to help the baseball program that he, himself, played for as a youngster.
The event will be held on November 19, 2011 and it’s hoped by best friend Tony Todd who is organizing the event, that Charlie’s participation and contacts will bring in a whole load of celebrities from baseball and from movies and TV to help raise a ton of money for the kids. They’ve already got a few good hearted souls such as Christina DeRosa and Adam Rose (Up in the Air, Bounty Hunter) as well as former MLB players Tim Leary (who also played at Santa Monica) and Kenny Lofton, and current player Derek Lee. But that list is sure to grow even as late as the last minute as it’s likely Sheen will be able to rope a few of his friends into making surprise appearances on the school’s behalf. After all, it’s a very good cause.
One thing that Todd specifically mentioned when interviewed is that he wanted people to know that Charlie can be extremely generous and we’ve seen a lot of cases where that is true, and we commend him as we always do for his kindness towards such charitable endeavors. Todd said that Sheen even offered more than the $10,000, but his friend told him that it was more than generous and even that was a bit much, but the fact he was willing to give more says a lot about his dedication to the young folks.
It’s unclear how to get tickets to the fundraiser, but it will be held at the Santa Monica Moose Lodge, so you could try calling there and see how you can get into an event that will surely be the talk of the town the next day and raise some great cash for the high school baseball program at Sheen’s alma mater.
