Charlie Sheen’s roast was hysterical and the man took the jokes with as much grace as he possibly could as they plowed through the darkest regions of his life, picking on more of the legend than of the reality, because after all, that is what people wanted to hear. A lot of the ones on there didn’t seem to know Sheen well, only of him. And that is what they’ve heard on sites and in news stories. He snorted big rocks of cocaine, had wild parties with 20 women, stabbed his ex-girlfriend. These are easy to target and make jokes about, but I think Sheen realized that they weren’t as much talking about him as much as this twisted image the media has created about the man.
Steve-O was probably just joking around, an extension from the roast when he posted the picture of Charlie Sheen and himself looking quite stoned at the after-party for the ribbing. The caption read, “I believe I’m in the most expensive crack house on the planet.” And fans went crazy, because in the picture Charlie looks a bit disheveled and thinner than we saw him only a few hours before on stage. To add to the fire, Steve-O also hinted that Sheen might not be on the wagon as much as he tries to portray, but refused to confirm why he thought that, saying he wasn’t in the position to judge.
I’m not a doctor and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but I’ve seen a lot of photographs in my time. This one appears to be from a camera phone and it doesn’t seem like it’s quite in the right aspect ratio, giving both of them a taller, but thinner appearance. Steve-O’s face looks like a skull compared to Sheen’s. And then there are the teeth, another point of contention, which could simply be a lighting issue. It’s not like we haven’t seen Sheen recently. Yes, he probably had a ton of makeup on at the Emmy’s and for his roast, but it’s not easy to hide all of that, especially the teeth.
The point is that people can’t seem to let him work it out without being almost disappointed that his life isn’t in the toilet like it was. That he may be able to pull out of his funk like Robert Downey Jr. and become a respectable entertainer once more. It’s not good gossip fuel for stars to actually be working on their issues instead of just spouting out nonsense catchphrases.
Now I have no idea what Sheen is doing or not doing, but I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt and I want to see him succeed in his quest for normalcy and not wind up in the grave like Amy Winehouse, which is where he was headed. So I truly hope that he can be sober and off the drugs that have interfered with his life. And while we have reported his antics here just as anywhere else, we also do feel for the man and we hope that he can rise above it, which he seems to be struggling toward. But I guess only time will tell.
