Apparently the Roast did have some effect on Charlie Sheen after all. The actor sees a future that is not filled with crazier antics and spouting out wild taglines, but as a more responsible parent and an actor that is able to be trusted to be professional, though he admits his past actions certainly give producers reasons to worry. But he says that it’s all behind him now and he wants to let people know that he will show his changes via action and not just words.
Sheen says that he never really meant for his initial rants to get out of control the way they did, but when people started eating up phrases like tiger blood and being a Vatican Assassin Warlock, he felt he had hit on something that the public liked. And the comedian in him, who’s always looking to entertain, especially after the horrific crash he had with Chuck Lorre and company, was mesmerized by it, perhaps too much. He admits it was all pretty silly now in retrospect, but it’s what he felt people wanted. In the end, he told Matt Lauer at NBC Today that he probably would have amended his previous statements if he had realized it was so out of hand.
But perhaps the biggest influence on his new attitude is that his life seems to be picking back up. After all, he’s got a new TV show coming up which he stands to make a fortune off of if it does well, based on the movie Anger Management. He also has a new movie being prepared called A Glimpse in the Mind of Charlie Swan III about a graphic designer who does well with the ladies (sounds familiar?) until his girlfriend dumps him, turning him inside out. That film is to be directed by Roman Coppola, who is related to Francis Ford and Sophia Coppola. Plus he’s got a much better relationship with his ex-wives and hopes to be more involved with his children.
And so while it may have been a rough time, he says he’s getting his life turned around, that he’s been sober and calmer lately and fully ready to go back to work. And we think that when push comes to shove, he can be very funny, and we hope that it all works out for him. Although I think we’ll miss some of the crazy along the way.
