In a final stick it to the actor by show producer Chuck Lorre, the new season of Two and Half Men will have a funeral for their fallen co-star. Well, at least his alter ego, Charlie Harper, assuring that the character is officially dead. It’s like showing scenes after an execution to convince people that the executed are in fact deceased.
As we’ve mentioned, the show ended its partial season with Charlie moving to Paris with Rose. It made sense that he would have just left and therefore Alan and his son could just live there with no issues and then renting out a room to Kutcher. This would have also kept the show from having to sit in mourning, which plagued Eight Ways to Date My Daughter after John Ritter’s passing. But Lorre, who was furious at Sheen, decided that he did not want him ever to come back or further be associated with the show in any way, shape or form. This may also have to do with the legal stipulation that as long as he is considered a character on the show, he gets paid whether he appears or not. By completely writing him out, that may solve that little clause.
It seems that Two and Half Men is going to go down the same road as Office did when Steve Carell left. They will be showing Charlie’s house off to potential buyers giving them a host of guest stars before Kutcher’s character finally comes along and purchases it. The problem with this is why in the heck would a guy who just bought a fancy house let Alan and his kid stay there? It just doesn’t gel with the real world. Having him be a relative, perhaps a long lost cousin, who hears of Charlie’s death and comes back into town, would have worked fine. Then if he bought the place and let it remain the same, then it wouldn’t be so odd. But I’m sure the reasoning will be explained. Stipulations of the will perhaps? Who knows.
Anyway, Sheen will be hosting his own roast on Comedy Central that same time, targeted at keeping the audience down for CBS show. And honestly, at this point, I think I’d rather see the roast than the new season.
