It seems that the news of his death has been greatly exaggerated and was the subject of a hoax designed to get user’s account information on Facebook. You know the drill. Show you this crazy story headline and then when you click on it, it asks permission for several things. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize they are getting scammed and give the application permission, which then can do a lot of things like steal identities, etc.

Of course, Charlie Sheen isn’t the first one to be thought dead by internet. Just recently, even Hugh Hefner of Playboy fame was said to be dead in a similar situation. The head of the bunny empire quickly clarified that he was not biologically challenged (not his words) and that he was happy that people cared enough to ask.

The only other explanation is perhaps some confusion over Sheen and his character on Two and Half Men. Charlie Harper will die, or is already dead, before the next season of Two and Half Men. He will reportedly fly off a cliff and die, leaving the show open to Ashton Kutcher. They weren’t clear on a time line.

The moral of the story, don’t open weird and sensationalized Facebook articles or videos, even if sent by your friends. Maybe they could get Sheen to do a PSA.
