Comedy Central, which seemed as though they were going to air the Roast live on September 19, 2011 has already taped it in front of a live studio audience, which included many celebrities, even some from Sheen’s past. It’s probably just as well. It gives them time to edit out or bleep out some of the more risqué comments that were made that might not be suitable for the 8:30pm time slot. Although Seth McFarlane (roastmaster) does get away these days with quite a bit, so who knows how paranoid the cable network will be.

One of the biggest surprises is that Brooke Mueller, Sheen’s most current ex-wife, and the one supposedly reconciling with the warlock, made an appearance and McFarlane told the audience that she was not there at knife point, but voluntarily decided to attend. Denise Richards was in negotiations to also be there and perhaps even joke around against her ex-husband, but apparently decided not to. Missing also was any appearance of Goddess Natalie Kenly apparently.

The jokes were very nasty and there were no topics off limit as they twisted the knife several times into Sheen during the evening. Jon Lovitz even targeted Mueller and their reconciliation trip to Mexico, saying that Sheen screwed her so hard, that balloons of cocaine actually came out her butt. Of course, the language was far more filthy than that, but you get the gist. Other topics included Sheen’s parenting skills, his love lives, his substance abuse, his ex-wives, his wild partying, and even one about the shooting of Kelly Preston, who’s now married to John Travolta, who didn’t attend.

Besides Lovitz and Mueller, there were a lot of celebrities there, but oddly enough, there were more in the audience, than at the roasting table. William “Captain Kirk” Shatner was there, along with Steve O from Jackass, Mike Tyson, comedians Patrice O’ Neal, Anthony Jeselnik, and Amy Shumer. Harvey Levin, who hosts TMZ and is the commentator on People’s Court, was hinted around that he would be roasting Charlie, but apparently a big story about Britney Spear’s lack of underwear kept him from the event. Kate Walsh from ABC’s Private Practice was an odd addition to the proceedings, but at least there was someone with a current celeb status.

As we said, seated in the studio were people like Kristy Swanson (who starred with Sheen in The Chase), Dog the Bounty Hunter, Psyche’s Corbin Bernsen, Joe Francis (producer of Girls Gone Wild), Slash, Michael Boatman, Sheen’s lawyer Marty Singer, Richard Kind, and reality TV personality Kristin Cavallari. The funny thing is I would have rather seen these guys doing the roasting.

So the question is did it work? They said it was supposed to be an intervention, but according to Sheen, he was unscathed by the event. Although he did say that he didn’t realize how screwed up he was. But he said that if drugs, sex and being thrown off Two and Half Men didn’t kill him, the jokes wouldn’t either. And did we expect any less? The man is fearlessly protective of his lifestyle and how he chooses to deal with things, so it’s no wonder he didn’t find any problem in what they were telling him. So much for seeing the error of his ways.

As we said, the show airs opposite Two and Half Men on Comedy Central at 8:30pm.
